Transaction monitoring systems for the global banking industry continually evolve in their ability to screen large volumes of data using built-in triggers with automated thresholds for detection of potentially abnormal activity. While all alerts must be reviewed and thoroughly investigated, not every alert requires a SAR (Suspicious Activity Report) to be filed.

The team will drive and assist with global efforts to strengthen Compliance Surveillance’s detection capabilities across trade and electronic communications surveillance through new scenario implementation and enhancements, employing advanced techniques (such as quantitative measurements and analytics).

  • Reviewing and analyzing surveillance alerts and/or reports relating to firm, employee and client trading activity. Properly documenting the review and disposition of the exceptions as well as escalating matters appropriately.
  • Gathering and analyzing trade data to assist in the Firms response to inquiries received from governmental and exchange regulatory bodies. Additionally, supporting the compliance group in evaluating surveillance results for potential problems, communicating surveillance findings to management in a clear and concise manner as well as interacting with legal and other compliance personnel.
  • Responding to inquiries or requests from internal partners (e.g. ICRM Assurance, Internal Audit, Legal).
  • Assisting with the design and implementation of new surveillances as well as the refinement of existing ones. Interacting with IT on the specific design and testing of new surveillances.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
  • Conducting routine reviews and ad hoc reviews of employee e-communications (BBG Chats/IM Chats/Recorded calls)
  • Analysis of e-communications to identify unusual activity and potential compliance issues
  • Interfacing with relevant stakeholders to review and escalate potential compliance issues
  • Assisting with analysis and implementation of new and enhanced surveillance reviews and processes
